John has a deep, warm, authoritative voice. His early background performing Shakespeare means he is confident in dealing with language and material of any complexity.
John has been a professional actor since starting his career with the Canadian National Theatre in 1977.
John has voiced characters and training films covering a wide spectrum: computer gaming, science, health, education, business. He has also appeared in numerous BBC Radio 4 plays and on Morning Story, using North American, cockney, midlands and numerous other accents.
The son of a Canadian mother and a Yorkshire army officer, John travelled widely as a child which goes some way to explain his easy facility with accents. Home moved from West Africa, to Hong Kong to Germany and finally to London. School in Yorkshire has given him a firm grounding in northern English dialect, and most of John’s television work has seen him playing northern characters – he spent four series co-starring with Patricia Routledge in Hetty Wainthropp Investigates, for example.
